日本政府支持的日本产业技术综合研究所21日宣布，研究小组成功用一名10岁女孩脱下的智齿，培育出诱导多功能干细胞(iPS细胞)。这是科学家首次通过智齿细胞获得iPS干细胞，毋须使用胚胎惹起道德争议，为致命疾病的研究开拓一条新路。

    上述报道中，wisdom teeth就是“智齿”，一般指the last of the permanent teeth to erupt (between ages 16 and 21)，tooth/teeth decay 则是“龋齿”，也叫dental caries。
