The European Parliament will debate and vote to adopt the final report on illegal activities of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States at an EP plenary session next Wednesday on Feb. 14 in Strasbourg of France, the European Union (EU) assembly announced in Brussels on Friday.
The draft final report was presented by the Temporary Committee on alleged illegal CIA activities under the EP.
On Nov. 28, 2006, rapporteur Claudio Fava from the committee presented a draft final report, which was adopted by the committee as a whole on Jan. 23, 2007.
The draft report concludes that "at least 1,245 flights operated by the CIA flew into European airspace or stopped over at European airports between the end of 2001 and the end of 2005."
It says European countries have been "turning a blind eye" to such flights.
"Temporary secret detention facilities in European countries may have been located at U.S. military bases," the report concludes.
In a press release, the EP said the committee has so far made arduous work -- 12 months of hearings, more than 30 meetings, seven official delegations to different countries, analyses and testimony from witnesses and victims alike.
