马里兰大学帕克分校简介

马里兰大学帕克分校(University of Maryland College Park),不但地理位置好,环境优良,在学术声望上也有全美前50的排名。马里兰大学帕克分校是马里兰大学系统的旗舰〈Flagship〉—创始学校,成立于1862年。UM—College Park也是全美大学联盟〈The Association of American University〉—简称AAU,的61个盟校之一;与美国的其它名校,如UC-Berkley、UCLA、Michigan—Ann Arbor或伊利诺大学香槟分校〈UIUC〉都有合作教学的计划。

由于马里兰大学帕克分校是一所州立大学,而且又有充足的研究经费与良好的学校声誉,它与民间的公私立机构建立了不错的互信关系。UM总是不吝于提供马里兰州政府、地方性实验室、或各级学校机构它们的最新学术成果;而这些地方机构也都乐于提供UM的学生可供研究的数据或任何工读机会。马里兰大学帕克分校,University of Maryland College Park UM也对不少非营利性机构〈Non-profit organizations〉提供协助,经过这几年的推行,已经有了不少丰硕的成果。

马里兰大学帕克分校位于华盛顿特区附近,生活费想必也就不像其它学校那样便宜了。不过,由于UM是公立学校,学费相对的也较学术声望同等级的私校来得便宜。不过,类似M.B.A或工程相关科系等较热门的系所,校方会加收特别费用〈Special Fees〉,同学有意申请相关科系时,最好先上该科系系版查询特别学分费。

马里兰大学每年大概提供国际研究生〈International graduate students〉260名助理工读的机会〈Fellowship〉,其中的100个名额给予学科研究优异的学生〈students with outstanding academic records and recommendations〉。另外的160个名额是分散于各处室或校内教学机构的缺额,需要申请者依照自身才能竞争。一旦得到了这些工读机会,一年的薪资大概会有$12,131以上,同学的学费也就不用愁了。

UM中的国际教育机构—International Education Services Office 是专门替校内国际学生解决学业、人际关系或财务等问题的机构;除此之外,它也负责该校学生赴海外留学的业务。根据校方2001年统计,在全校3万4千名学生中,大学部外籍学生占其中的2.9%;研究生占28%。

马里兰大学学院市分校属于ACC联盟。马里兰大学学院市分校的知名运动项目包括篮球,橄榄球,足球,长曲棍球等。共获得过19次全国冠军。马里兰大学的长曲棍球是全美国国领先的项目,女子长曲棍球获得过10个全国冠军,并于1995至2001年保持七连冠。

最近获得全国冠军的项目有女子篮球(2006),曲棍球(2005),男子足球(2005)。

传统对手

在男子篮球方面,Duke大学是马里兰大学的传统对手。

在橄榄球方面,北卡州立大学,弗吉尼亚大学和西弗吉尼亚大学是马里兰大学的传统对手。同西弗吉尼亚大学之间的橄榄球比赛从1980年开始年年举行。宾夕法尼亚州立大学在90年代以前同马里兰大学经常比赛,目前两个学校正在谈判准备重新开始两校之间的比赛。

马里兰大学和约翰斯·霍普金斯大学是男子长曲棍球的传统对手。
