　　元宵节的习俗 -the custom of Lanturn Festival

　　吃汤圆 Eating Tangyuan or Yuanxiao

　　Chinese people love food, often associating food with celebration. To introduce the culture to foreigners, Yuanxiao, or also called Tangyuan, is the celebrated food of the Lantern Festival. The dessert is made of glutinous rice flour with various delicious fillings stuffed inside. Fillings can be either sweet or salty and often incorporates elements such as white sugar, brown sugar, sesame paste, peanut butter, walnuts, rose petals, sweetened tangerine peel, jujube paste, or a combination of two or three ingredients listed above. Yuanxiao can be either boiled, fried, or steamed. In addition, Tangyuan is pronounced similar to “Tuanyuan” , which means the happy gathering of the entire family. In other words, its consumption is a symbol of staying together and its roundness in shape has the connotation of wholeness and togetherness in Chinese culture.

　　中国人爱吃，各种节日都是吃货大祭五脏庙的好借口。所以元宵节不能不提的习俗就是吃元宵，也称汤圆(两者有细微区别)。元宵以白糖、芝麻、豆沙、果仁、玫瑰、枣泥等为馅，用糯米粉包成圆形，口味可甜可咸。用汤煮、蒸食皆是可以。因为汤圆的谐音为“团圆”，意为团团圆圆，这是一种很吉祥的寓意，代表着在一家人的团结和睦，来年风调雨顺。
