　　The number of prairie dogs in United States is decreasing, but we should not take actions to protect them.

　　1) First, prairie dogs are agricultural pests to grassland. Farmers think they are under economic loss because the prairie dogs always compete grass with cattle. Also, they live in groups and their burrows are damage to the grassland.

　　2) Second, prairie dogs might cause health hazard. For example, prairie dogs will spread fleas on human. So there is no need to spend energy and time on protecting prairie dogs.

　　3) Third, prairie dogs do not deserve special protection. Prairie dogs are herbivorous, which are at the bottom of the food chain, they are less important to ecosystem because only the top of the food chain makes sense to the ecosystem, we should protect carnivores.

　　1) First, the theory about pests is outdated. Farmers now forage cattle with processed feed, so there is not any competitive relation in grass between prairie dogs and cattle. Also, a survey showed that raise cattle in closed area with prairies dogs, the burrows will fertile the soil, actually the activities of prairie dogs have some positive effects.

　　2) Second, the professor states that fleas on prairie dogs would not infect human because the fleas cannot live on human body. Take Colorado for instance, there was only ten people got infected because of the touch with prairie dogs in the past fifty years, people are extremely unlikely to get infected.

　　3) Third, prairie dogs is one part of the food chain. When the number of them decreases, it will influence some other important animals. Besides, prairie dogs can provide habitats for other animals and are the critical food resource. For example, prairie dogs' burrows are good places for snakes and salamanders to live, and foxes also make living by preying prairie dogs.
