　　Whether bees had been existed 200 million years ago.

　　Reading:

　　The three skeptical doubts about the point that bees could have existed 200 million years ago .

　　1) The first doubt is that there is no actual fossil of bees themselves.

　　2) The second doubt is that there is no flower or flowering plants which bees feed on 200 million years ago. The earliest flower was found 125 million years ago.

　　3) Third, the fossilized structure might not made by bees. Compared to modern bee nest, the fossilized chamber lacks the details of the cap structures, which suggests this fossilized chamber might be made by other insects.

　　Listening：

　　Disagree. Bees exist earlier than 200 million years ago.

　　1) First, the lack of fossil do not necessarily mean the absence of bees. Tree resin that produces the substance to preserve the bees only existed 200 million years ago. Bees may have been existed earlier before the existence of tree resin.

　　2) Second, the professor states that bees may have been fed on non-flowering plants such as pine trees and gradually evolved to feeding on flower plants. Bees feed on nectar is just an adaptation to the evolution of plants.

　　3) Third, the professor claims that the fossil belongs to bees. There is an chemical evidence provides that the water proofing (i.e. prevents the water from entering the bee chamber) substance are found in both fossilized and modern bee chambers. We can make an assertion that this definitely is the bees' fossil by the chemical substance.

　　Whether agricultural subsidies benefits the consumers and farmers or not..

　　Reading:

　　Agricultural subsidies have some advantages .

　　1) First, agricultural subsidies can stabilize the price of farm products. Consumers can buy food at a lower price. Moreover, when the number of farm products is decreasing, the spare food can be used to supply the deficient of the market.

　　2) Second, agricultural subsidies can solve some poor nations' problems. For example, it can help the poor nations go through the financial crisis, as well as deal with the poverty and hungry. In some African countries, the agricultural subsidies can provide cheaper imported agricultural products.

　　3) Third, agricultural subsidies can increase the opportunity of agricultural employment.

　　Listening：

　　Disagree.

　　1) First, although it can stable the price, the reason of price decreasing is the governmental subsidies. All these governmental subsidies are from the tax revenue, so the decrease of price is actually the tax increase, the more food the consumers buy, the more tax the consumers will pay. So it is just a balance and will not benefit the consumers.

　　2) Second, the professor states that it can not help the poor nations. When poor nations come across the economic crisis and import some farm products, they will find out the imported price is much lower than local price, it can not ensure the benefits to the local farmer and it will also influence the development of whole national agriculture and economy.

　　3) Third, it will not increase the opportunity of employment. The agricultural subsidies are only applied to part of farm products. For example, the crops. When the agricultural subsidies increase, the production mode of crops will be highly mechanized for the purpose of productivity, there will be no work opportunities for human. Meanwhile, some companies which plant other farm products will lose their merits and may be closed down, thus deepening the employment issues.
